Gazania Splendor Blanket: A Mesmerizing Garden in Yarn

Iโ€™m so excited to finally share my newest crochet blanket pattern with you โ€” Gazania Splendor! This design has been blooming in my mind (and on my hook!) for quite some time – in fact, itโ€™s been 4 years since I made all the octagons! It is inspired by the radiant beauty of the Gazania Splendens flower โ€” known for its vibrant yellows, warm oranges, and lush greens. If you’re craving for a bold, joyful project that bursts with color and texture, then this is the pattern for you.

The Inspiration

The Gazania flower is known for opening its petals wide to the sun, revealing fiery shades of gold, orange, and green. Naturally, I wanted to capture that feeling of warmth and radiance in a crochet blanket โ€” something that would brighten up a space just like a garden full of sun-loving blooms. Ultimately, The Gazania Splendor blanket is my tribute to this vibrant flower and the joy it brings.

The Design

The blanket is constructed from octagonal motifs, which are joined together using coordinating square and triangular filler motifs. To enhance the overall texture and durability, the motifs are joined using a flat slip-stitch join. After all the motifs are assembled, a coordinating border frames the entire blanket, pulling everything together into a cohesive, polished finish.

Key Features:

  • Octagon-based layout with square and triangle filler motifs
  • A decorative border that echoes the motifs for a balanced look
  • Made with worsted weight yarn, but adaptable to any yarn type
  • Designed for 7 colors, but includes 4-colorway options for a simplified palette

Whatโ€™s Inside the Pattern

Whether youโ€™re a confident beginner or an experienced crocheter looking for a satisfying project, Iโ€™ve made sure the Gazania Splendor pattern supports you at every step. Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s included:

  • Written instructions for each motif and assembly
  • Detailed photo tutorials for each round and all special stitches
  • Video tutorials – step by step lessons for each motif
  • Crochet charts for those who prefer a graphic approach
  • Assembly guide so you can put your blanket together with confidence

This pattern is truly a labor of love, and I’ve tried to make it as accessible and enjoyable as possible. You can work at your own pace, mix and match colors, and really make the project your own.

Yarn & Color Options

My sample blanket is made with 7 shades of yellows, oranges, and greens to capture the full essence of a Gazania in bloom. However, Iโ€™ve also included curated 4-color variations in the pattern. So, whether you prefer a simpler palette or have a limited stash, you still have beautiful options to choose from.

Additionally, you can also experiment with your own combinations โ€” the design is flexible and plays beautifully with both bold contrasts and subtle gradients.

The size of the blanket will depend on the type or yarn that you use and also on number of motifs, but here are some estimated sizes, using #4 worsted weight yarn and a 5 m hook.

Each octagon measures 11โ€x 11โ€ /23cm x 23cm/
