I’m so excited to share with you one of my favorite crochet creations — a mandala design that was born from my travels last year.

This time, my inspiration came from the breathtaking beauty of the Caribbean, where I spent some unforgettable days on the islands of Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante. The tropical flowers, exotic plants, and the endless shades of turquoise sea all found their way into the stitches of this design, which I named Marie-Galante in honor of the island that captured my heart.

As usual, I packed a couple of yarn cakes from Hobbii in my suitcase — they’re perfect for traveling since they take up almost no space and offer such a beautiful flow of colors. I love how the vibrant ombré shades gradually transition, making each round feel alive, like a reflection of sunlight moving across the ocean.

This time my yarn was Twister: Ice Sculpture (39) and Rhubarb & Cream (33). A 2.5 mm hook is perfect for this yarn weight.

The Marie-Galante Mandala is made using the overlay mosaic crochet technique, which creates striking geometric patterns and layers of texture. It’s one of my favorite techniques because it allows for endless color combinations — you can use a single gradient yarn cake for a smooth ombré effect or mix multiple solid shades from your stash to make every motif stand out. I’ve created several beautiful colorways for this mandala, along with yarn suggestions. The Crochet Along (CAL) is scheduled to start on November 1st and will last 5 weeks with pattern section released every Saturday.
Join the CAL before October 20th and get a 10% discount! Use coupon code MARIE at checkout. This coupon code will work with any of my mosaic crochet mandalas until October 20th, 2025.
